Clay County Street Sweeper Program

Clay County’s Street Sweeper Program is designed to keep our roads clean, safe, and environmentally friendly. By regularly removing debris, leaves, and litter from roadways, the program helps prevent stormwater pollution, protects local waterways, and enhances the appearance of our community.

To be included in the program, roads must have both curb and gutter infrastructure, as well as a functioning storm drain system.

A sweeper with a unique name

Several elementary schools sit along the sweeper’s main route, sparking an idea from Public Works to engage young residents in local government—by letting them name the street sweeper.

The County's Communications Office shared educational materials and invited schools to submit names. Students responded with creative entries like Lil’ Scrubby, The Sweeper-ella Express, and Sweeptimus Prime.

The winning name? Sweep Dreams—inspired by second graders at Tynes Elementary School. Watch the video below - or read more here - to see the whole story!
