How to Obtain a Roofing Permit

Submission Process:

The following are our requirements for a roofing permit application:

  1. A copy of the recorded deed showing ownership of the property. You may obtain a copy of your deed from the Recording Department in the Clay County Courthouse or by visiting the Clerk of the Court’s site: www.clayclerk.com.
  2. Fill out the Building Permit application (See button to left).

PLEASE NOTE: 

  1. As of March 1, 2019 Roofing Affidavits will no longer be accepted.
  2. Per Code 706.6 ALL residences that have been constructed after March 1, 2002 shall ONLY require a FINAL INSPECTION.
  3. ALL residences that have been re-roofed after May of 2007 shall ONLY require a FINAL INSPECTION.
  4. ALL site built single family detached dwellings built prior to March 1, 2002 shall require a Nailing and Dry-in Inspections.

NOTE:  Verification of dates for the residence(s) being roofed/re-roofed shall be the Contractor’s SOLE RESPONSIBILITY and any portion of the Clay County Department of Economic and Development Services shall not provide this service.

Important Notes:

  1. If plans are larger than 8 ½ x 14, application shall be made in person.
  2. If a lessee owns the sign, the lessee must sign the application.
  3. Required inspections for re-roof permits include the following. The first two inspections are in-progress inspections.The final inspection shall be performed upon completion of all work.
    1. Nail off (code BIRL)
    2. Underlay (code BIJ)
    3. Final(code BFF)
  4. When the conditions are met that would allow a roof over, the following inspections are required. The first inspection shall be called in or requested at the time of permit prior to commencing any portion of the work. The final inspection shall be performed upon completion of all work.
    1. Prior to start(code BIRO)
    2. Final(BFF)
  5. All inspections shall be scheduled at least one day prior to the date on which the inspection is required/needed. On the day of the inspection, please call the building inspector between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. at 904-269-6307 or 904-269-6308.
  6. A Notice of Commencement shall be required on any job with a value equal to, or greater than $2,500. Please bring a picture identification, such as a driver’s license, if you require the services of a notary.
