How To Obtain a Residential Addition Permit

Submission Process:

The following are our requirements for a residential addition permit application:

  1. A copy of the recorded deed showing ownership of the property. You may obtain a copy of your deed from the Recording Department in the Clay County Courthouse or by visiting the Clerk of the Court’s site:www.clayclerk.com.
  2. Driveway permit (See button at left).
  3. A plot plan/survey that shows all standard submittal requirements including all lot grades, finish floor elevations, sidewalks, and locations of required tree plantings, as well as the building(s) existing and proposed and driveway(s). This shall be presented to the Zoning Division/Department.If this is approved the below applies.
  4. If any portion of the proposed building(s) lie within a flood hazard area, a flood permit shall be required. An elevation certificate shall be signed and sealed by a surveyor prior to pouring the slab.A final elevation certificate shall be required at final inspection.
  5. If your proposed building(s) are being served by a septic system you shall contact the Clay County Health Department for a septic tank permit. Call them at 904-278-3784.
  6. Provide the following for all plans required for plan review prior to getting a building permit (See button at left).
  7. Fill out the Building Permit application (See button at left).

Important Notes:

  1. If the home lies within a platted subdivision, a form board certification is required at slab inspection.
  2. A Notice of Commencement shall be required on any job with a value equal to, or greater than $2,500. Please bring a picture identification, such as a driver’s license, if you require the services of a notary.

Approval Process:

Once your permit has been processed, you will receive an email confirmation that the permit has been approved or denied.  If payment was made online, he approved plan packet shall be available at our office location for pickup.  If the payment was made by mail or in person, you will receive your permit upon payment.
