Welcome to Camp Chowenwaw Park (Cho’-wen-waw)

Camp Chowenwaw is a beautiful 150-acre park along Black Creek in Green Cove Springs, near the St. Johns River. The park offers:

  • Camping
  • Event and meeting spaces
  • Hiking trails and fishing spots
  • Kayak access and paddleboard rentals
  • Volleyball court and picnic areas
  • Seasonal swimming pool
  • Museum and nature center
  • Playground

Clay County purchased the camp in 2006 from the Girl Scouts of the Gateway Council, with help from Florida Communities Trust and Florida Forever funds. The county now manages the park to protect its natural beauty and history while providing fun outdoor activities.

The site was a Girl Scout camp for more than 70 years, starting in 1933. Camp Chowenwaw made lasting memories for three generations of young women in Northeast Florida.

Come visit and discover one of Clay County’s hidden gems!
