3D Printing Services at the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library

Unlock the possibilities of 3D printing at the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library! Whether you’re working on a creative project, need a prototype, or just want to explore the world of 3D printing, we’ve got you covered. Users can complete the 3D Printing Request Form at the bottom of this page, which opens your default email program and allows you to attach your .STL file.

The 3D printer can create a physical object based on a design supplied as a digital file. All print requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. If there is high demand, the library will schedule only one print per week per patron.

Object Design

Users of this service must agree to the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library’s 3D Printing Policy. The procedures governing the library’s 3D printer use are subject to change. Patrons must supply their design files for printing.

Creating a new design requires knowledge of 3D modeling software products. Many designs are available online from file-sharing sites like thingiverse.com free of charge. Stay tuned for upcoming classes to learn about the software, TinkerCAD, which will be used to create 3D objects.

Design Guidelines

Designs must be submitted in a .stl file.

Size and Time Restrictions

The design must fit on the 3D printer’s platform with a maximum size of 6” x 6” x 6” and cannot exceed a print time of five hours.

Printing Costs

  • $0.05 per gram of object's weight (with a $1.00 minimum)
  • $1.00 per step for multi-step designs

Most print jobs will cost between $1.00 and $3.00. Printing is charged by the gram of filament used to produce the object. Except in cases of mechanical failure, incomplete prints, or other technical errors beyond the patron’s control, patrons are expected to pay for completed objects. Reprints due to user dissatisfaction (e.g., color, scale, quality, or design) are not permitted without additional charges.

Once requests are received, staff will add the model to the print queue. Charges must be paid at the time of pick-up. Refunds are not given.

If the print job cannot be fulfilled, you will receive an email with an explanation. See the 3D Printing Policy for print refusal guidelines.

Your Finished Print

A completion email will be sent once your job is finished.

Completed print jobs must be picked up at the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library within 14 days of receiving the completion notice. All files submitted will be deleted after printing, so be sure to save a copy of your project.
