Library Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Thousands of books, magazines, and newspapers are available through the library’s digital collection for all resident cardholders.
The library accepts donations in good condition. Donations may be brought to the front desk of any library during business hours.
Items that do not meet the library’s condition or selection criteria may be redirected to partner organizations such as the Friends of the Library.
The library does not accept:
- Encyclopedias
- Textbooks
- Cassette tapes
- VHS tapes
AARP often provides tax preparation assistance at public libraries and other community locations. The library can assist with obtaining tax forms but does not provide tax preparation services or tax advice.

Yes. Patrons may place items on hold. You will be notified when your item becomes available using your selected notification method:
- Text message
- Phone call
To change your notification preference, contact any library branch.
No. Printing services are cash-only.
- The printing kiosk does not accept pennies.
- Please bring small bills or change.
- Staff may not be able to make change for large bills.
You may renew materials in several ways:
In person
Visit any Clay County Library location with your library card or checked-out materials.
By phone
Call any branch during operating hours to renew materials checked out on your card. You will be asked to provide your library card number.
Online
- Log into your library account using your card number (username) and PIN.
- Navigate to My Account > My Borrowing > Loans.
- Select the items you wish to renew.
Items already renewed once or reserved by another patron cannot be renewed.
Yes. Before submitting a request, please search the online catalog to confirm the item is not already owned.
Submit a Suggest a Purchase request. While every effort is made to accommodate requests, purchase is not guaranteed.
Yes. Materials may be returned to any Clay County Library location. All branches provide book drops for after-hours returns.
Yes. Scanning is available at all library locations. You must bring a USB flash drive to save scanned documents.
No. Notary services are not available at library locations.
Color printing is available at the Fleming Island Library.
Printing costs:
- Black and white: $0.20 per page (all locations)
- Color: $0.50 per page (Fleming Island only)
Yes. Digital materials (eBooks and other eMaterials) are available to all resident cardholders through the library’s digital collection.
Yes. You may schedule a 30-minute one-on-one appointment with library staff for assistance using computers, mobile devices, software, or library e-resources.
Yes. Newspapers and magazines are available digitally through the library website. Patrons may also use library tablets inside the building to access publications such as NewsBank Newspapers, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Libby Magazines.
Tablet use is available to visitors age 18 or older and must remain inside the library.
No. Printing services are only available at library locations.
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available inside library buildings and in parking areas.
To connect:
- Open your device’s network settings.
- Select ClayBCC_Public.
- No password is required.
Study rooms are available at the Fleming Island, Orange Park, and Green Cove Springs Libraries.
Reservations may be made in advance. Walk-ins are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

If an item is not available in the catalog, you may request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Library cards are free for Clay County residents and property owners.
To apply, visit any Clay County Library location and bring a valid Florida driver’s license or government-issued photo ID showing your current address. Complete the patron registration form at the circulation desk.
Eligibility information
Children under age 18
Children must provide a birth certificate, school ID, or government-issued photo ID. A parent or legal guardian must sign the application. The adult signer accepts responsibility for all fines or fees associated with the account.
Active-duty military and dependents
Active-duty military members and their dependents may receive a free Clay County Library card. Please bring a military ID along with a driver’s license or state-issued ID.
Reciprocal borrowers
Residents of Alachua, Bradford, Putnam, and St. Johns Counties may receive a reciprocal Clay County Library card at no cost with proof of residency.
Non-resident cards
Individuals who do not live or own property in Clay County may purchase a non-resident library card:
- 3 months — $30
- 6 months — $60
- 12 months — $100
Fees may be paid at any library location using a credit card, check, or cash. Online payment is not currently available.
- If this is a new card, try entering the last four digits of the phone number on your account.
- Visit or call any Clay County Library to request that library staff reset your PIN. You will need your library card number available.
- Please test your new PIN before you leave or while you are on the phone.

Patrons may check out 15 items per card, up to 45 items total for linked family cards.

Your default PIN is the last four digits of the phone number used when registering your library card. You may change your PIN through your online account or by contacting a library branch.
Meeting rooms are available at the Fleming Island, Orange Park, and Middleburg libraries.
Reservations require a Clay County Library card or eligible non-resident card in good standing. Registered Florida nonprofit organizations may reserve meeting rooms at no cost.

Library cards are valid for two years and may be renewed at no cost if your account is in good standing. Proof of current address and identification are required for renewal.
