Residential Sharps Disposal

Safely disposing of residential medical sharps is free and easy for Clay County residents.

Improperly disposed sharps can puncture garbage containers, injure collection workers, create hazards at landfills, and clog sewer lift stations. Help protect the public and the environment by disposing of sharps properly.

Through a partnership between Clay County Environmental Services and the Florida Department of Health in Clay County, approved biomedical sharps containers are available to Clay County residents at no cost.

How the Program Works

Residents may pick up an approved sharps container during regular business hours at the Florida Department of Health in Clay County. Containers are also available at Orange Park Medical Center.

• Use only approved sharps containers.
• Fill the container no more than three-quarters (¾) full.
• Exchange the full container for a new one.
• Seal the container before transporting it.
• Bring proof of Clay County residency.

If you do not have an approved sharps container, one will be provided.

Important: Take your filled sharps container to the Environmental Services entrance at the back of the hospital. Environmental Services personnel will assist you with the disposal process.
