Programs and Activities for All Abilities

The Clay County Library System offers a wide variety of programs and activities designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind! Our staff is constantly working to keep these events new, evolving – and fun! You can find when and where they are held by visiting our calendar.

Sensory-Friendly Library Service

The staff at the Clay County Public Library System has partnered with KultureCity® to improve our ability to assist and accommodate patrons with sensory needs to create an environment they can fully enjoy.

Sensory Bags

Sensory Friendly ServicesSensory Bags are available for use at all of our libraries. These can be used inside the library for as long as an individual needs, but cannot be taken outside the library. Each Sensory Bag contains

  • noise-reducing headphones
  • fidget tools
  • a visual cue card
  • a KultureCity® VIP lanyard (optional to wear)

Each library branch has a weighted lap pad available upon request.

Quiet Zones and Headphone Zones

Each library branch also has a designated Quiet Zone(s) for our patrons who may need a quieter and more secure environment. Signage reading Headphone Zone will also be posted in areas that tend to have increased noise levels.

Sensory-Friendly Events

We pledge to create more sensory-friendly programming and events. To help make these events and programs easily searchable, we will add a statement in the description that states “This is a sensory-friendly event”. You can search for those in our online calendar

County-Run Events

The Clay County Board of County Commissioners hosts two large events every year and is proud to include quiet time to make these events more welcoming for all of our residents.

Touch A Truck: What Moves Clay…

This is a free community event that brings together everyone and everything that moves Clay County - from County departments and services to nonprofits, public safety, County agencies, and more. There are dozens of service vehicles for kids to see up close, food trucks, indoor and outdoor activities, free giveaways, and booths from County departments, organizations, and other entities to tell Clay County residents what's available to them - right at home. The beginning of this event is designated as ‘quiet time’ – no bright, flashing lights or loud sirens and horns that might not be comfortable for some of our residents. Please stay tuned to our event page for this year’s information as it becomes available!
