Need to Give Up Your Pet?

We know giving up a pet is a hard decision. Surrendering your animal to the shelter should be a last resort. Please try these options first:

Before You Surrender Your Pet

  • Ask friends or family if they can adopt your pet.
  • Use free rehoming websites to help find your pet a new home.
  • Talk to your veterinarian or search online for help with behavior problems.
  • Ask us about pet food assistance if you are having trouble affording food.

Surrendering Your Pet to Clay County Animal Services

If you live in Clay County and cannot keep or rehome your pet, we can help.

  1. Fill out the correct form to help us learn about your pet.

    Accessibility:
    Dial 711 (Telecommunications Relay Service) and provide the operator with the number above, or call the Florida Relay Service at 1-800-955-9555 .

  2. Make an appointment.

    Email form to Clayadoptions@claycountygov.com

  3. Bring veterinary records if you have them.
  4. Show a valid Clay County ID.
  5. Pay the $50 surrender fee per pet.
