Clay County 250th Anniversary of the United States of America Celebrations

Clay County departments and elected officials are proud to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. The following highlights planned events, programs, and initiatives taking place throughout the year to celebrate this historic milestone.

January

  • Clay County kicked off its commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America with a graphic on the Clay Day invitations and a Freedom 250 backdrop at the reception itself.

  • Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies purchased commemorative badges, purchased by the deputies themselves, to wear throughout the year.

February

  • The Clay County Communications Office created a 250th anniversary logo using the county seal to be used on social media and printed documents to commemorate the anniversary.

March

  • The Clay County Communications Office is working on multimedia content to commemorate the anniversary on the county’s various social media platforms.
  • Library cards will be ordered with the 250th logo.

April

  • Touch A Truck: Saluting Those Who Serve will feature a 250th celebration.
  • Clay County staff invited the Freedom Truck Mobile Museum to Touch A Truck.
  • The Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office will have an interactive display highlighting the 250th anniversary at the Clay County Fair.

May

  • Clay County History Month is in full swing and is USA 250th themed!  Stop by the Clay County Courthouse (825 N. Orange Ave, GCS) anytime this month (M-F, 8am-5pm) to view the Clerk’s Historical Archives Division’s latest presentation inside the front rotunda.  “British East Florida – The 14th Colony” is 128 square feet of full-color content that explains who was here in the 1770’s and how the Revolutionary War impacted our region. Go check it out!
  • The Clerk of Court’s Art in the Courthouse gallery on the 4th Floor of the Clay County Courthouse in Green Cove Springs will feature a display of amazing USA-inspired quilts created just for 2026 by the talented members of the First Coast Quilters Guild; a USA Bicentennial quilt created by Village Improvement Association (VIA) members in 1976 will be included in this special show as well.
  • Thousands of CCDS junior high students will study Clay County history – including local stories from the 1700’s – for two full weeks based on curriculum developed in partnership with the Clerk of Court’s Historical Archives Division.
  • The Clay County Historical Society will host their 60th Anniversary & Railroad Festival on Saturday, May 9th, at the county’s Historic Triangle in Green Cove Springs.
  • The City of Green Cove Springs’ Riverfest event on May 25 will feature a 250th anniversary commemoration.

June

  • The Orange Park Mall will be celebrating the 250th anniversary through its reimagined Freedom Fest: Americana Thursdays series, producing a four-week indoor community concert series on Thursday evenings in June from 4:30 to 7:00 PM in the Orange Park Mall Center Court.
  • Clay County District Schools will commemorate the anniversary at the July board meeting, which will be on June 25. 
  • The Clerk of Court’s Art in the Courthouse gallery on the 4th Floor of the Clay County Courthouse in Green Cove Springs will feature a display of amazing USA-inspired quilts created just for 2026 by the talented members of the First Coast Quilters Guild; a USA Bicentennial quilt created by Village Improvement Association (VIA) members in 1976 will be included in this special show as well. 

 

  • The Clay County Public Libraries’ Summer Reading Program will celebrate the 250th anniversary throughout his month;  the Clerk of Court’s Historical Archives’ “British East Florida – The 14th Colony” display will be featured at various libraries across the county (explains who was here in the 1770’s and how the Revolutionary War impacted our region).

July

  • A Board of County Commissioners proclamation is planned with lawmakers and elected officials is approved.
  • The Clay County Public Libraries’ Summer Reading Program will celebrate the 250th anniversary the week of the Fourth and the week after.
  • The Clay County Public Libraries’ Veterans Tree will also be displayed during those weeks.
  • The Clay County Public Libraries' staff invited the Freedom Truck Mobile Museum during these weeks.
  • Tour groups at the Clay County main courthouse and the courthouse at the Historic Triangle will receive a 250th USA emphasis from staff.
  • The Town of Orange Park sponsors Moosehaven’s American Pride 4th of July event.
  • The City of Keystone Heights is having an event with vendors, food trucks, live music, 5k run, a parade, and fireworks.
  • Clay County Parks and Recreation is tying in the anniversary to an existing July event. 
  • The Clay County Public Libraries’ Summer Reading Program will celebrate the 250th anniversary throughout this month;  the Clerk of Court’s Historical Archives’ “British East Florida – The 14th Colony” display will be featured at various libraries across the county (explains who was here in the 1770’s and how the Revolutionary War impacted our region).

  • The Sophia Fleming Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will gather at the 1890 Historic Courthouse at the county’s Historic Triangle in Green Cove Springs to read aloud the United State’s Declaration of Independence as part of a nationwide DAR event on July 8th.

August

  • Clay County Parks and Recreation is planning an ‘American Pastime’ focused Pitch Hit and Run event, date TBD

September

  • The Clay County Public Libraries’ Art the Card competition will be based on the 250th anniversary.

October

  • Clay County's elected officials and leadership will participate in a special event, America 250: Clay County Commemoration, on October 14 at 2:50 PM at the Historic Triangle in Green Cove Springs.

  • Clay County staff invited the Freedom Truck Mobile Museum to the event 

  • Clay County Parks and Recreation is planning to incorporate the anniversary in an event, date TBD

November

December
