Back-to-School Tips for a Smooth Transition

Post Date:07/20/2026 9:00 AM
In collaboration with the Florida Department of Health - Clay, Clay County Fire Rescue is sharing helpful tips to help families prepare for a safe and successful school year.

Start Early

Begin preparing a few weeks before school starts. Shop for supplies, schedule important appointments, set up a homework space, and reestablish a consistent bedtime routine.

Create a Routine

A daily schedule that includes homework, chores, meals, and downtime helps children know what to expect and adjust to their new routine.

Stay Organized

Use a family calendar to track school events, deadlines, and appointments. Staying organized could prevent last-minute surprises and reduce stress.

Talk Openly

Encourage children to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns about the upcoming school year. Open conversations can ease worries and build confidence.

Encourage Healthy Habits

Healthy meals, regular activity, and enough sleep can help students stay focused, energized, and ready to learn.

Set Screen Time Limits

Create healthy boundaries around device use, especially before bedtime. Encourage reading, outdoor activities, and family time instead.

Get Involved

Attend school events, meet teachers, and learn about school expectations. Staying connected helps families support students throughout the year.

With a little planning and support, families can start the school year feeling prepared, organized, and confident.
