GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Clay County Fire Rescue celebrated and recognized many of its members and community members whose actions actions went above and beyond at an awards ceremony on August 9th.

The awards included Firefighter of the Year, Administration Employee of the Year, Department Citation, Meritorious Service, Distinguished Service, Unit Citation, Campaign Award and Civilian Recognition Awards.

Captain Moises Rodriguez was named Firefighter of the Year for 2021, Chief William Futch for 2022, and Lieutenant Chris Carney for 2023. Communications Officer Payton Sass was named Administration Employee of the Year. Members from the Orange Park Fire Department, First Coast Fire Naval Air Station Jacksonville, the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and several civilians also received awards.

The event was made possible through a collaboration between CCFR and County leadership and staff, the Awards and Recognition Committee, and the Clay County Board of County Commissioners. CCFR leadership appreciates the support from Sheriff Michelle Cook, government officials, local dignitaries, HCA Orange Park Hospital EMS Liaison, Ascension St. Vincent's EMS Liaison, Riley Phillips, Baptist Health EMS Liaison, the Clay County Fire Rescue Honor Guard and the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Pipes and Drums. Leadership is also grateful to all of our sponsors, including the platinum level event sponsors HCA Orange Park Hospital, Ascension St. Vincent's, Municipal Equipment and Local 3362.

Clay County Fire Rescue prides itself on the level of professionalism, dedication, and bravery its members display in our communities. Being in this profession is a calling that isn't always easy to answer, but CCFR members answer it every day. This awards ceremony is only one example of the quality of our first responders who serve the residents of Clay County.
