Post Date:07/15/2024 1:00 PM

Here are some topics from the last Board of County Commissioners meeting. If you want to know more about what was discussed and decided, you can read the agendas and minutes as they get posted. You can watch the meeting in full on our Facebook page or website.

Developing a new vision for College Drive

The College Drive Initiative has spurred interest in developing a Visioning and Strategic Development Charrette for the 2.5-mile corridor of College Drive from Lakeside to Doctors Inlet. The County requested proposals from consultants skilled in addressing urban planning, economic development, transportation, and landscape architecture to leverage insights from the ULI TAP Report in order to promote sustainable growth, enhance livability, and forge a cohesive identity for the College Drive area. Commissioners heard presentations from GAI Consultants, Inc. and Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. who were the top-ranked consultants for RFP No. 23/24-075 College Drive Visioning and Strategic Development Charrette. After both presentations, Commissioners selected Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. as the best consultant to help develop the vision for the future of College Drive. The project will include planning, community visioning, and the development of a strategic action plan. All work is expected to be completed by December 31, 2024.  Listen to the presentations and following discussion at the 1:27:29-minute mark.

Serving spouses and dependents of our veterans through the Veteran Card Program

The Clay County Veterans Services Office is launching a Veteran Card Pilot Program designed to help surviving spouses and dependents of veterans. The Veteran Card has an area to list the Veteran’s Service Connection Disabilities and can be presented to the attending physician and funeral director at the time of death. Presenting the Veteran Card will ensure that those completing the death certificate are aware of the veteran's service connections or medical conditions, increasing the possibility of the surviving family members being eligible for monthly, tax-free VA Dependency and Indemnity compensation. Veteran Cards are available at the Clay County Veterans Services Office in Middleburg. Learn more about this new program at the 22:59-minute mark.

New garbage collection carts coming soon to Clay County

Crews will deliver new garbage collection carts to residents in unincorporated areas of the County and the City of Keystone Heights starting from July 29. It will take about seven weeks to complete the delivery. The 95-gallon wheeled carts can hold 7-8 tall kitchen garbage bags and can be easily picked up by the automated collection trucks when placed with the lids facing the street. Residents are to use the new garbage carts starting October 1. Garbage and yard waste will be collected on the same day. Residents can scan the QR code on the flyer included with the cart to view  FAQs on the County’s website. A presentation detailing the new service and recycling trends is available at the 35:00-minute mark, and read the answers to frequently asked questions on our website.
