GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- We want your input on future Veterans Park outdoor recreation amenities and activities. Join us on July 30th at the Oakleaf Phase 1 Amenity Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to share your thoughts! Your input can help shape future amenities and activities for consideration at Veterans Park and other locations.
Background:
Clay County acquired the 641-acre Veterans Park site in March 2000 through the federal government to permanently use and maintain it as a public park.
The county’s goal for the site is to continue to provide public access to recreation opportunities through a sustainable long-term plan.
Due to the changing needs and trends in recreation, the Parks and Recreation Department has begun Phase 1 of a Feasibility Study and Site Plan. This phase includes asking the community for input through a short survey (hyperlink https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ClayCountyVeteransPark)
to update recommendations for potential improvements, and also identify potential funding sources. These recommendations will respond to the county's continued population growth and recreation needs, and address its Strategic Plan priorities.
Strategic Plan priorities include Quality and Balance of Life through the ongoing protection of critical natural resources, sustainable long-term planning, and promotion of accessible recreational activities.
If feasible improvements are identified through Phase 1, Phase 2 would proceed with the development of a recommended long-range site plan, phasing, and cost estimates. Both phases are scheduled for completion by the end of September 2024.
About the survey:
As the first step in the Feasibility Study, Clay County would like to gather input from the community about their needs and priorities for outdoor recreation amenities and activities. This will help inform potential future amenities and/or activities for consideration at Veterans Park or other locations.
All future potential recreation opportunities at Veterans Park will complement the site’s unique natural resources and be aligned with long-term management needs and site restrictions.
The survey will be live until late July.
