 Bringing economic development through partnerships

Clay County has a strong partnership with the Clay Economic Development Corporation and the regional economic development organization, JAXUSA. These organizations work together to bring new business and industry to our county. According to the Wall Street Journal, Northeast Florida has the second-best job market in the U.S. Florida competes with the strong Southeast region for prime economic development projects. Talent development is the primary goal when recruiting companies to come to our area, and Clay County has great opportunities to get our students ready for work. The skills the companies are looking for are available through our Clay District Schools, internships, apprenticeships, and degree programs at St Johns River State College. Infrastructure is also a key to getting industry here. Current trends show that our region is leading in advanced manufacturing and transportation logistics sectors and Since 2022, JAXUSA has referred 72 projects to the Clay EDC for recruitment. To make the County even more marketable to industries, the County needs to also focus on creating shovel-ready sites with utilities already in place.  Clay Soil and Water Conservation District -Board of Supervisors promotes agricultural interests in our community

Soil and Water Board Seat 3 Supervisor Garry Mcintyre updated Commissioners on what the Board has been working on over the past year. The Board members are elected officials working in a volunteer capacity who are active in the community and support projects that enhance our soil and water quality. They have been working closely with Clay District Schools promoting and sponsoring tree plantings, poster contests, and speech contests for students to win prizes and cash awards. They have also been working closely with the Florida Department of Agriculture in Clay County and North Florida Land Trust to support farmers, ranchers, and others with agricultural interests through grants, tax incentives, and more. Feed Mill Community Development District established

Commissioners held a public hearing on a petition from Peters Creek Investments, LLP to establish the Feed Mill Community Development District (CDD). The request includes Board approval to establish the CDD for the 1,035-acre community as outlined in the Florida Statutes and consent to allow the CDD to manage parks, facilities, and security aligned with all County ordinances. Following approval of the petition, Commissioners held a public hearing and adopted an ordinance creating the Feed Mill CDD. There are more than 900 CDDs in Florida that have the authority to act as a financing and maintenance entity to make community improvements for stormwater management, water and wastewater infrastructure, landscaping and irrigation, recreation improvements, and conserving wildlife habitat. Listen to the presentation and following discussion starting at the 1:09:55-minute mark.
