Planning next year’s budget to meet the needs of our communities
Commissioners held the first of two public hearings required to adopt a millage rate and budget. Review the tentative budget. A final public hearing will be on September 26, 2023. Commissioners also discussed how to spend the remaining $3.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds to benefit our residents. The projects that will receive funding include Libraries and Parks on the Go mobile units to bring these services to our communities, a mobile free medical clinic, media studio upgrades for live reports from the emergency operations center, a traffic signal and intersection improvements at County Road 220 and Lakeshore Drive West, a crosswalk at Thunderbolt Elementary School, water and sewer lines on College Drive, and a new dock at Williams Park. These projects will be completed by the end of 2024. You can watch the complete discussion at 1:46:44.

New grants aim to improve traffic on College Drive and Wells Road
The county will apply for two community planning grants through the Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant Program. The grants would fund complete street assessments on College Drive and Wells Road as part of the ongoing College Drive and Gateway to Clay community initiatives. The studies would look at traffic improvements like roundabouts, traffic lanes, parking, sidewalks, and curbs among other items. Successful grant applications will provide funding late next fiscal year to complete the street assessment and identify traffic improvements in these communities. Listen to the discussion at 3:32:13.
