Here are some topics from the last Board of County Commissioners meeting. If you want to know more about what was discussed and decided, you can read the agendas and minutes as they get posted.  You can watch the meeting in full on our Facebook page or website

Study reveals which dirt roads might be paved next

A recent study conducted by a consultant from the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization has identified potential candidates for paving projects among the hundreds of miles of unpaved roads in Clay County. The study involved ranking over 450 county-maintained unpaved roads based on various factors such as their current conditions, ownership, community usage, maintenance costs, and the right of way required for paving. If you're curious about whether your road is on the high-priority list, you can listen to the presentation, which begins at the 39:34 mark.

Residents voted to honor fallen Army Ranger Sergeant Bradley Crose with new road name

We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated in the survey to select the name for the new Clay County gun range road. The survey presented the names of several notable community members, and residents provided nearly 4,000 responses in less than three weeks. The most popular choice was in honor of Sergeant Bradley Crose, an Orange Park resident who was assigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and was killed in action in the defense of his country during Operation Anaconda outside Gardez, Afghanistan on March 4, 2002. Sergeant Crose joined the Army two weeks after he graduated from Orange Park High School. He attended Basic and Infantry training, Airborne School, Ranger Indoctrination training, and Ranger School at Ft. Benning, GA. Enemy gunfire forced down an MH-47 Chinook helicopter, in which Sergeant Cross and his fellow Rangers were aboard. He was 22. Commissioners will vote on a resolution at the August 9 BCC Meeting to officially designate the name of the new gun range road. If you are interested in listening, the discussion starts at the 51:05 mark.

Improving quality of life with Community Development Block Grants

Your input is helping plan how federal dollars can best serve our community. Resident feedback helped determine the budget and projects for next year’s Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan. Funding through this program will provide housing rehabilitation for 10 homeowners, and support community infrastructure improvements and neighborhood cleanup efforts. The FY 23-24 Annual Action Plan was approved at the BCC Meeting. The discussion starts at 1:03 if you would like to learn more.

Board of Adjustments seeking new membership

The Clay County Board of Adjustments is a committee made up of five appointed citizens, often from engineering or building professions. The BOA helps residents understand the land development code, hears enforcement appeals, and grants variances to the code. Commissioners accepted the resignation of a member who is relocating, leaving two open positions. If you are interested in serving your community on the Board of Adjustments, please visit our Committee Vacancies website. The discussion about this topic begins at 1:42:01
