Here are some topics from the last Board of County Commissioners meeting. If you want to know more about what was discussed and decided, you can read the agendas and minutes as they get posted. You can watch the meeting in full on our Facebook page or website.
Repurposing old computers to help our community
County officials are partnering with nonprofit organizations to provide computers and monitors to families in need. Instead of recycling old computers and monitors, they will be donated to nonprofit organizations, like the PC Ministry, to be refurbished and distributed to local families without home computers. We know there is a need throughout the community and commissioners voted to have our Community Services Department lead the distribution efforts of these unused devices. The discussion starts at 17:50 if you want to learn more.
New fire station coming to the Old Jennings/Oakleaf area
Residents in the Old Jennings/ Oakleaf area will soon be getting a new fire station at the intersection of Old Jennings Road and Brannan Mill Boulevard. This location provides quick access to major roads and Ascension St. Vincent's Clay Hospital, making it ideal. This station will serve the new growth in the Branan Field Road and Blanding Boulevard area and reduce response times for existing communities. Commissioners approved the purchase of the 4.25-acre property and construction of the new Clay County Fire Station 1 will start as soon as possible. The discussion starts at 1:12:52 if you would like to listen.
New property for fire station 24 rezoned for construction
Construction will soon begin for the new Clay County Fire Rescue Station 24 in Virginia Village. Property was recently purchased from Shiloh Baptist Church near the intersection of County Road 226 and Sweat Road, next to the existing station. Commissioners approved rezoning the parcel so the fire station could be built. The existing fire station is too small for the growing population, and this larger property will accommodate the required equipment and personnel needed to serve this community. The discussion starts at 1:42:47 if you would like to listen.
