We want to make it easy for residents in Clay Hill and Keystone Heights to connect, so we are partnering with Comcast to hold an event where they can sign up for Xfinity internet services right in the community.
The Comcast Xfinity Internet Community Sign-Up Day will be on Saturday, May 6, inside the cafeteria at Clay Hill Elementary, located at 6345 County Road 218, begins at 10 a.m.
Residents will be able to find out if internet is available to their home now, and if not, when it will be. If Xfinity internet service is already available for their home, neighbors can sign up on-site as volunteers guide them through the process.
“This project is more than just internet – it touches education, careers, entertainment, and resources,” Clay County Board of County Commissioners Chair Betsy Condon said. “Our goal is to eliminate the digital divide across Clay County, so our residents won’t have to be burdened with the worry of not being able to connect for online education, work, or family entertainment.”
Residents will learn which Xfinity internet services are available to them, and if they qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a federal program that provides low-income households a credit of up to $30/month towards their internet and/or mobile services.
Volunteers will be available on-site to help neighbors sign up for the ACP. Neighbors interested in this option must bring identification and benefit documentation. Visit acpbenefit.org to learn more.
We are also coordinating with our community partners to have other local resources available.
We are currently working on expanding broadband internet to more areas of the county, and we will continue to update the community as more sign-up opportunities become available.
As the network expands, so will connectivity. The goal is to eliminate the digital divide through this process. The county is actively working to accomplish this with Comcast and with the help of grants.
