Nearly 2 tons of hazardous waste collected in Clay County

Way to go, neighbors of Clay County!

You helped us safely dispose of nearly 1.91 tons of hazardous waste and old electronics, and 1.59 tons of trash as a result of our Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day on March 18th.Amnesty Day

Jamey Wilkes, Operations Manager for Clay County Department of Environmental Services, confirmed they had their largest turnout since they started doing this event at Keystone Beach!

61 participants dropped off approximately 1.91 tons of household hazardous wastes and old electronics, and 1.59 tons of trash.  

Here is a breakdown of all hazardous waste materials collected:

  • 110 gallons of Latex Paint
  • 55 gallons of Flammable Liquids
  • 55 gallons of Waste Oil/Antifreeze
  • 4 Cubic Yard of Fertilizers and Weed & Feed
  • 2 Cubic Yards of Pesticides, Herbicides, and Plant Foods
  • 18 Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • 15 Propane Bottles
  • 5 depleted fire extinguishers

Old electronics included flat-screen TVs, VCRs, camcorders, computer screens, laptops, cell phones, and one working typewriter.  

Amnesty3If you missed out on this event, you can still drop off their hazardous waste materials at Rosemary Hill Solid Waste Management Facility, located at 3545 Rosemary Hill Rd, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. It's open Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

You can also drop off certain electronic devices at Rosemary Hill Solid Waste Management Facility, and at four of the County’s Environmental Convenience Centers (ECCs). 

These are those locations:

  1. Doctors Inlet ECC, located at 288 Sleepy Hollow Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068
  2. Keystone Heights ECC, located at 5505 County Road 214 Keystone Heights, FL 32656
  3. Clay Hill ECC, located at 5869 County Road 218 Middleburg, FL 32068
  4. Long Bay ECC, located at 1589 Long Bay Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068 

The hours of operation for the ECCs are Thursday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
