Green lights lit the sky throughout our county Monday evening. A soft hue of green, unmistakably so, softly shown on our courthouse, the county administration building, the Historic Triangle, our libraries, fire stations, and other buildings from Green Cove Springs to our county lines. The lights are nice to look at - a change from normality - but they represent something much deeper, something that's steeped in pride: support for our country's veterans.
It's called Operation Green Light, and it's an initiative of the National Association of Counties and County Veterans' Services Officers. The goal is to let our veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported. Here in Clay County, pride for our country and respect for our veterans runs deep. This county-wide movement brought our cities and local government together to create an unmistakable show of support for the men and women who dedicated their lives to our freedoms.
We encourage everyone in our county to join in. Display a green light outside your home or business this week through Veterans Day. When you pass one of the lit buildings, pause for a moment and remember our nation's heroes and their incredible service and sacrifice for our great nation.
