What is this project?
The degrading drainage structure system in the 1300 block of Camp Ridge Lane in Middleburg caused the road to sink and prevent the drainage system from working properly. Clay County engineers have determined that these repairs need to be done as soon as possible to prevent a safety issue in the future. Crews will begin repairs to the drainage system beginning the first week of November. This will prevent further decline in the drainage structures and the roads. The work will also help prevent flooding.
The project includes replacing the curb inlets, drainpipes, sidewalks, driveways that are affected by the construction, and milling and resurfacing the roadway. The work could take up to 75 days to complete, and that’s dependent on the weather and supply availability. Digging up the drainpipes will create large and deep holes, which will be barricaded and fenced, with signage, when crews leave each day.
The safety of the residents in this area is our top priority. To ensure everyone’s safety during the drainage repairs, the construction area of Camp Ridge Lane will be closed to all traffic once construction begins and the work zone will be fenced off with signage. The rest of the road will be open to residents. We’re going door to door to talk with the residents who will be directly affected by this project to make sure we answer all of their questions and give them a full understanding of the project.
We understand this is an inconvenience for our residents in this area. Please be patient as the contractor and our crews work to fix this issue so it doesn’t become a safety concern in the future.
Who is affected?
Camp Ridge Lane residents at 1321, 1322, 1325, 1326, 1329, 1330, 1333, 1334, 1338, and 1337 will be directly impacted and will have restricted access to their driveways and the sidewalk during the work. Other homes on the street will be impacted by parking constraints and the road closure. Pedestrians can still use the sidewalk on the west side of the project area. We are doing this project in three phases in an effort to minimize the inconvenience to our residents.
How did this happen?
The existing drainage system needed major repairs to prevent safety hazards on the road in the future. The deterioration of the drainpipes is at the point where we must fix them before this becomes a safety concern for our residents.
How will you prevent this from happening again?
The drainage system was installed during a time when these pipes were put in at a deep elevation. Clay County no longer allows this type of installation depth.
Other information:
- I’ve heard of accidents in that area involving pedestrians. Is this related?
No. This project is to fix a drainage system.
