Essential Services and Activities During COVID-19 Emergency

Effective April 3, 2020, the Governor of the State of Florida ordered that all persons in Florida, shall limit their movements and personal interactions outside of their home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities.

  • Essential Services, a detailed and updated list of Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce, and businesses and activities designated by Executive Order 20-89 and its attachment, Emergency Order 07-20, which consists of a list propounded by Miami-Dade County in multiple orders is available at www.floridadisaster.org and www.floridahealth.org
  • Per Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 07-20, Essential Businesses are:
    • Healthcare Providers and Public Health Operations

    • Pharmacies

    • Grocery Stores

    • Convenience Stores

    • Other establishments primarily engaged in the retail sale of food, baby products, pet supplies, liquor, meats, and any other household consumer products

    • Shelters for the homeless and needy

    • Newspapers, Television, Radio, and other media Services

    • Gas Stations

    • Auto Dealerships

    • Auto Repair and Supply

    • Banks and Financial Institutions

    • Hardware, Consumer Electronics, and Appliance Retail Stores and Service Providers

    • Post Offices and other Shipping Facilities

    • Contractors and Tradesman providing services necessary to maintain safety, sanitation and essential operation of residences and other structures

    • Appliance Repair Services

    • Exterminators

    • Janitorial Services

    • Laundromats

    • Dry Cleaners

    • Restaurants (drive-thru, curbside and delivery only)

    • Office Supply Stores

    • Delivery Businesses

    • Airports and Seaports

    • Taxis and Other Private Transportation Services

    • Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Home-Based Care

    • Legal and Accounting Services

    • Landscape and Pool Care

    • Childcare Facilities (groups of 10 or fewer)

    • Telecommunications Providers

    • Open Construction Sites

    • Factories and Warehouses

    • Waste Management

    • Hotels, Motels, and Other Commercial Lodging Establishments

    • Veterinarians and Pet Boarding

    • Funeral Homes and Mortuaries

    • Firearm and Ammunition Stores

    • Moving and Storage Facilities

    • Electrical / Utility Production Companies

    • Residential and Commercial Real Estate Services

    • Logistics and Transportation Providers

    • Propane/Natural Gas providers

    • Architectural, Engineering, Land Surveying

    • Marinas, Boat Launches, Docking, Fueling, Marine Supply and Other Marina services. County owned Marinas and Boat Ramps shall be open from 7am-sunset

    • Any business interacting with customers solely through electronic or telephonic means, and delivering products via mailing, shipping, or delivery service

  • This order encourages individuals to work from home.

  • All businesses or organizations are encouraged to provide delivery, carry-out or curbside service outside of the business or organization, of orders placed online or via telephone, to the greatest extent practicable.

  • Essential Activities, encompass the following, and must be consistent with physical distancing guidelines: 
    •  Attending religious services conducted in churches, synagogues, and houses of worship.
    • Participating in recreational activities such as walking, biking, hiking, fishing, hunting, running or swimming.
    • Taking care of pets.
    • Caring for or otherwise assisting a loved one or friend. 
    • A social gathering in a public space is not an essential activity. Local jurisdictions shall ensure that groups of people greater than 10 are not permitted to congregate in any public space.
