Do you live in a wildland urban interface? As Florida’s population grows, homes and structures are expanding into forested areas. More people want to live “in the country” and “be closer to nature” but this also means living closer to fire prone areas and farther away from emergency resources. Thus, a greater responsibility falls on property owners to be proactive in protecting their homes and communities. Join Senior Forester of the Florida Forest Service, Jon Johnson, as he talks about Florida’s fire dependent environment, the use of prescribed fires, and other ways to mitigate wildfires.
Nature Center exhibits are open 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that day.
