Vulnerable Adult Exploitation Injunction Workshop

The Florida Legislature recently enacted Florida Statute §825.1035, a law intended to protect vulnerable adults of any age from financial exploitation. With the increase in technology and the ease of access to bank accounts and financial data through electronic means, vulnerable adults are now more susceptible than ever to exploitation. In an effort to assist the Florida Legislature and to help the citizens of Clay County protect vulnerable adults from exploitation, the Clay County Clerk’s Office will conduct a brief information sharing session we refer to as the Clay County Vulnerable Adult Injunction Workshop. We’ll be joined by members of local law enforcement and other community partners.

Thursday, January 10, 2019 10:30am to Noon Clay County Library Headquarters, Fleming Island Library Meeting Room 1895 Town Center Boulevard, Fleming Island

The purpose of this free workshop is to provide individuals working with, caring for or related to vulnerable adults the knowledge needed to file injunctions to protect them from exploitation and the tools necessary to file such protection injunctions. We will answer the following questions, and more: Who is considered a vulnerable adult? What constitutes exploitation? Who may legally file a petition for a vulnerable adult injunction? What are the procedures for filing a petition for a vulnerable adult injunction?

Together, we can take the necessary steps to protect vulnerable adults with whom we are in contact. This Clay County Vulnerable Adult Injunction Workshop is the first step in forming a partnership with that goal in mind. Clay County Clerk of Court Tara S. Green looks forward to meeting representatives from local organizations and citizens at this January 10th meeting.

The workshop is open to the public. Please contact Clerk’s Office General Counsel Justin Horan at (904) 269-6317 with any questions. Thank you.
