Community Parks

Carl Pugh Park is located at 317 S. West Street in Green Cove Springs and leased to the Green Cove Springs Athletic Association (GCSAA). Recreational opportunities include one softball field, four baseball fields, and two tennis courts. For information on activities and sign-up dates, please contact the GCSAA at (904) 529-7800.

Eagle Harbor Soccer Complex is a 28.96-acre soccer complex located at 4387 Lakeshore Drive adjacent to the Fleming Island Elementary School and is leased to the Clay County Soccer Club (CCSC). This park consists of 12 soccer fields, a pavilion with picnic area, and an equipped play area. For information on activities and sign-up dates, please contact the CCSC at (904) 278-1182.

Little Rain Lake Park is a 34+-acre park located at 6725 Little Rain Blvd. and is leased to the Keystone Recreation Association (KRA). Recreational facilities include two football fields, six baseball fields, two t-ball fields, a basketball court, two tennis courts and an equipped playground.  The site also includes two restrooms, four covered pavilions with picnic areas and a paved parking area. Omega Park is a 16-acre park located at 4317 County Road 218. Seven baseball fields surround a large concession facility and allows for league and tournament competition. The park also includes two football fields and a softball field and is currently leased to the Middleburg Athletic Association (MAA). This park serves the Middleburg and Clay Hill areas.  For information on activities and sign up dates, please contact MAA at #282-9847.

Paul C. Armstrong Park is an 18+-acre park leased to the Clay County Adult Softball Association (CCASA), and is located at 2445 CR 220 in Doctors Inlet. This park consists of three softball fields, two tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground, two soccer fields and five covered pavilions w/picnic areas. There is also a voter precinct building located on this site.

Ronnie Van Zant Park is an 85-acre park located at 2760 Sandridge Road off CR 739 B in the Penney Farms/Lake Asbury area, and provides both activity-based and resource-based facilities. Activity-based facilities include two basketball courts, four tennis courts, one soccer field, one softball field, seven covered pavilions with picnic areas, one volleyball court, and a fishing pond with four fishing piers. The resource-based facilities consist of nature trails and additional picnic areas. There are two 34' x 28' covered pavilion for large family functions. Tanglewood Park is a 12.75-acre park located at 2680 Gifford Avenue off Jefferson Avenue in the Ridgewood/Doctors Inlet area and is leased to the Tanglewood Athletic Association (TAA). This park consists of five baseball fields, two tennis courts, three pavilions with picnic areas, a ten-station fitness center and a fully equipped playground. Twin Lakes Park is a 50+-acre park located at 6065 Twin Lakes Road and is currently leased to the Keystone Youth Soccer Club (KYSC). This park consists of one baseball field, three soccer fields, a modular playground,  a pavilion with the picnic area, two tennis courts and a new concession/restroom building.  This park will also provide a staging area/welcome station for the anticipated recreation/bike trail that will utilize the abandoned rail corridor. Walter Odum Park is located at tat 445 Woodside Drive and includes one softball field, five baseball fields and a football field for league and tournament play. This park is leased to the Bel Med Athletic Association (BMAA). For information on activities and sign-up dates, please contact the BMAA at (904) 264-1910.

We are able to provide a variety of recreational opportunities to Clay County's citizens and visitors. Program and activity information may be obtained by calling (904) 284 or 269-6378. We maintain 9 community parks, 19 neighborhood parks, and 11 public boat ramp lanes, as well as approximately thirty-five miles of hiking, biking and walking trails. We also maintain a three-acre fishing pond in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission located at Ronnie Van Zant Park in the Lake Asbury area.

Neighborhood Parks

Black Creek Park and Trail located at 7890 Hightway 17, is a 15-acre site that serves as the staging area for the bicycle/pedestrian trail that runs along Highway 17 between Green Cove Springs and Orange Park. The park provides a paved parking area, a covered pavilion and a restroom.

Deerfield Point Park is located at 3228 Deerfield Point Drive within the Deerfield Point development in the northern portion of the County. The 1.87-acre park includes one picnic area with a covered pavilion and one fully equipped play area.

Doctors Lake Park  is located at 2399 Lakeshoer Drive North on the corner of White Owl Lane and Lakeshore Drive North on Fleming Island and provides a picnic area with a covered pavilion and a 320-foot fishing pier. This one-acre passive park provides access to Doctors Lake for fishing, small boats and canoes.

Eagle Harbor Park  is a 7-acre park located at 1245 Forest Park Drive on Fleming Island, and contains two basketball courts, one picnic area with a covered pavilion, and one fully equipped playground.

Four Silo Park consists of two tennis courts, a basketball court, one softball field, three picnic areas, and a playground on six acres, located at 1657 Farm Way, off CR 220.

Foxmeadow Recreational Park is a 19+acre park located at 1155 Foxmeadow Trail off Old Jennings Road in the northern section of the County. This park offers a large covered pavilion, 2 small pavilions, a double tennis court, an exercise trail, practice soccer field, a basketball court, an all-purpose ball field along with horse riding trails and an equipped playground.

Foxridge Park is a 2.86-acre park primarily serving members of the Foxridge Homeowners and Civic Association. It is located at 2599 Bottomridge Drive. This park includes three picnic areas, two tennis courts, and playground equipment.

Greenwood Park is a 1.13-acre park located at 245 Evergreen Lane. This park has three pavilions and four picnic areas, one basketball court and a fully equipped playground.

Hunter-Douglas Park is a 10-acre park located at 4427 Longmire Road in  Middleburg. The park consists of a pavilion with large picnic areas, one softball field, one basketball court, one tennis court, and a playground. The park also provides a large meeting room for use by the community.

Island Forest Park is a 2.8-acre park consisting of a fully equipped playground, four picnic areas, three pavilions, and a basketball court. This park is located at 6183 Bermuda Drive.

Kingsley Lake Park is located at 6110 Kingsley Lake Drive. This is a 1/2-acre park consisting of a tennis court, a picnic area with a covered pavilion, and an equipped play area.

Main Street Park is located at 3788 Main Street next to the Main Street Boat Ramp in Middleburg on the North Fork of Black Creek. This 5-acre park includes three pavilions with picnic areas, playground equipment, an 825-foot boardwalk, and two fishing piers.

Oak Creek Park is a one-half acre park located at 1760 Castille Drive off  Highway 17, north of CR 220. This park includes one pavilion, one volleyball court, a picnic area, and modular playground equipment.

Omega Park Playground is a .6-acre park located within the larger Omega Community Park located at 4319 CR 218 in the Middleburg-Clay Hill area. This park consists of one pavilion with picnic area, two tennis courts, and a fully equipped playground.

Penney Farms Park is a one-acre park with two tennis courts, and primarily serves the residents of the Penney Farms/Pier Station area. It is located at 705 W. Hoffman Street.

Pier Station Park is a two-acre park consisting of a softball field, four picnic areas, a playground, and a combined basketball/tennis court. It is located on Pier Station road.

Ridaught Landing Park is a .92-acre park located on Chief Ridaught Trail in the Doctors Inlet/Ridgewood area at 3018 Chief Ridaught Trail. This park has an equipped playground and a half basketball court.

Ronnie Van Zant Playground is located within the larger Ronnie Van Zant Community Park in the Penney Farms/Lake Asbury at 2760 Sandridge Road. This five-acre park includes two pavilions, picnic areas, and modular playground equipment. he park also included a Frisbee Golf Course.  For further information visit http://www.clayfrisbee.com.

Thunderbolt Park is a 9.27-acre park located on Fleming Island at 5700 Highway 17 and is open for use by the  public. This park provides a covered pavilion and two multipurpose fields for practicing soccer and football, and construction is complete on a new restroom building.

W. E. Varnes Park is located at 3593 Fortuna Drive off Peoria Road, and has two tennis courts, a picnic area with a covered pavilion, and an equipped playground.

Williams Park is located south of Green Cove Springs. This one-acre park includes two pavilions, two picnic areas, and a playground. The site is heavily wooded and affords a good view of the St. Johns River. Williams Park is an ideal spot for picnicking and other passive recreational activities.

Regional Parks

Bayard Point Conservation Area is located off SR 16 on the St. Johns River in the Green Cove Springs area. This resource-based park contains 9,615 acres that are used for hiking, fishing, picnicking, and horseback riding. Bayard Point Conservation Area is owned and maintained by St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD). Black Creek Ravines is a 973-acre regional park located at 5645 Green Road along the south bank of Black Creek. Black Creek Ravines is a resource-based park that provides such activities as horseback riding, hiking, and picnicking, as well as fishing, boating and canoeing on Black Creek. Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area is a 56,197-acre resource based park located opposite Gold Head Branch State Park. The wildlife management area is used for hunting and fishing, and other activities include swimming and picnicking. Jennings State Forest, located at 1337 Longhorn Road in the northwest sector of the County, contains a total of 23,995 acres, 12,500 of which were purchased under the Conservation and Recreation Lands (CARL) Program. This state forest is open during daylight hours for swimming, hiking, bicycling, canoeing, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. The forest is open to regulated hunting and fishing under the direction of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the forest closes to all other recreational activities during hunting periods. Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, the County’s major regional park, is located east of SR 21, north of Keystone Heights. Activities offered at this 2,000-acre site include camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, nature trails, canoeing and lakefront cabins. For information, please call (352) 473-4701.

Moccasin Slough is a 255-acre parcel located located at Highway 17 and Raggedy Point Road on Fleming Island, stretching from Highway 17 east to the St. Johns River, and contains 3,000 feet of frontage on the river. This parcel was acquired through grants from the Florida Communities Trust and the Land and Water Conservation (FDEP). It is one of the largest undeveloped tracts on the river between Jacksonville and Palatka. Substantial improvements are scheduled to begin October 2004.

A portion of the Florida Trail traverses the southwestern quadrant of the County, entering at Camp Blanding and skirting around the north side of Keystone Heights. This facility also passes through Gold Head Branch State Park. The Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for its management and upkeep within the State Park; where the Trail passes over private lands, maintenance responsibility lies with the Florida Trail Association, a private, non-profit organization. With a growing interest in hiking, the Trail is anticipated to become an increasingly important recreational resource in the County.
