Beginning January 6, 2009, Animal Control will be open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Discount Tickets Available for 2009 Clay County Agricultural Fair
The Clay County Fair Association has announced that discount tickets are available for the 23rd Annual Fair that will be held April 2 through 11, 2009. The discounted prices are as follows:

Until Dec. 31, 2008: Adults (ages 13-64) $5.00; Seniors (Age 65+) $3.00, Children (Ages 6-12) $3.00

January 1 – April 1, 2009: Adults $6.00; Seniors $4.00; Children $4.00

Regular ticket prices start April 2: Adults $8.00; Seniors $5.00; Children $5.00

Clay BCC Begins Live Video Streaming of Meetings
The Clay County Board of County Commissioners will begin streaming all Commissioner and committee meetings via the county website on October 28, 2008. Citizens will be able to view live meetings and watch archived meetings by going to www.claycountygov.com/streaming/streaming.htm, or by clicking on the streaming icon located under quick links or selecting “Monthly Meeting Schedule and Agendas” under the BCC Meetings menu located on the left side of this webpage.

Public School Concurrency Effective Date
The Department of Community Affairs has issued a Notice of Intent to find the comprehensive plan amendment to adopt the Public School Facilities Element IN COMPLIANCE. Pending no third party appeals, school concurrency will become effective on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. For further information on school concurrency, please visit the Planning and Zoning webpage.

Preparing for the Broadcast Digital Transition (DTV)
In 1996, Congress mandated that as of February 17, 2009 all TV broadcast stations (such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS and Univision) must cease their analog “over the air” broadcast transmissions and begin broadcasting exclusively in digital format. This change is known as the “Broadcast Digital TV (DTV) Transition.”

If you have a TV set that functions with the help of “rabbit ears” or an outdoor antenna and the set is not connected to cable or satellite service, it will stop receiving local broadcast TV signals as of February 17, 2009.

Consumers with analog TV sets can deal with this transition in the following ways:

1) Purchase digital converter boxes to use with their current TV’s (The Government’s DTV coupon allows each household to apply for two coupons for a $40.00 discount off the price of a digital-to-analog converter, which is expected to retail for $40 to $70). These coupons will be good for ninety (90) days from the time of receipt and can be used at electronics retail stores. Please note that coupons are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Coupons can be requested by calling the Coupon Program 24-hour hotline at 1-888-388-2009 or by visiting https://www.dtv2009.gov/.

2) Purchase a new digital TV

3) Connect your analog TV to the service provided by a local cable company or another video service provider.

BCC Seeks Volunteers for Planning District Citizens Advisory Committees (CAC)
Clay County is geographically divided into seven planning districts: 1) Doctor’s Inlet/Ridgewood; 2) Fleming Island; 3) Green Cove Springs; 4) Keystone Heights; 5) Middleburg/Clay Hill; 6) Orange Park and 7) Penney Farms. The Board of County Commissioners and Clay County Planning Commission are currently seeking six to ten volunteers for openings on Citizen Advisory Committees (CAC) for six of the seven districts listed above. The Fleming Island CAC currently has full membership.  If you are interested in participating in the county’s comprehensive growth management plan for the district in which you reside, please submit your application on-line by clicking the above link.
